Styropack Packaging

Styropack produce expanded polystyrene packaging on a global scale. Packaging items for companies such as Panasonic, B&Q and Astracast roll off their Rishton production line, near Blackburn in Lancashire. Polystyrene is 100% recyclable and is an excellent material with all manor of uses besides packaging. Styropack commissioned creative|mixed|media to produce a short film that illustrated these concepts. The film was to be used at sales events, seminars and on the companies website.

The film that we produced is all written, directed, animated and filmed with an original score by creative|mixed|media. Some of the still images were supplied by the client. We wanted to establish the clients branding and give people some idea of how the packaging is molded. So, the first section of the film has a 3D animated representation of the molding tools with the polystyrene beads being blown into them, cured with steam and then pushed out; the same process that we saw being used in the factory. This was our first ‘foray’ into 3D animation with all the sequence being drawn in Adobe Illustrator, embellished in Photoshop and then finally animated in Adobe After Effects.
